If it is not possible to take a buccal swab, then other types of samples can be used. Each of these samples also must be placed in a separate envelope, which should be labeled with the name or code of the person from whom the sample originated.
Samples that can be used:
- Cut fingernails (2-3 pieces);
- Cotton ear swabs, after cleaning;
- Cigarette butts (2-3 pieces);
- Toothbrushes;
- Fabrics with biological material (eg, saliva, blood, semen ...);
- Hair, which must have a root. Hairs that fall out, or are cut, are not suitable for analysis. It is preferable to send 3-5 hairs;
- Glasses or bottles from which the person in question drank;
- Baby dummy;
- Chewing gum.
The biological material used is very stable and can be suitable for testing a long time after it is sampled.
Prenatal prenatal paternity (before birth) is also possible. The sample of the unborn child to be analysed is taken by a gynecologist. The same sample can be used to test for genetic disorders of the child.
