Classical cytogenetic methods determine the fetal karyotype. The human karyotype contains 46 chromosomes (23 pairs - 22 autosomnal pairs and one pair of sex chromosomes). With this method, changes in the number or structure of chromosomes (translocations, deletions, duplications, etc.) can be detected. 

Test results are ready within 12-20 days. 

Samples to be provided are 20ml of amniotic fluid or 2 ml of umbilical cord blood. 

We can also do both QF-PCR and cytogenetic tests from the same amniotic fluid or blood sample.
